The Jackets saved one of their best fundamental games of the year for the dawgs Wednesday night. Four Jacket pitchers combined to pitch a 6 hitter. David Duncan worked the first three, giving up 2 runs, followed by Brad Rulon's three shutout innings that included five strikeouts. Tim Ladd pitched a scoreless 7th and freshman Chris Hicks closed out the game with two scoreless innings.
Matt Wieters and Steven Blackwood were the hitting stars for the Jackets this innings. Wieters had four rbi including a homer and Blackwood continued to come out of his earlier slump by collecting four more hits. He has raised his average 40 points over the past two weeks.
The Jackets were flawless in the field this evening and the pitching staff had control of their pitches and worked ahead in the count most of the night.Shortstop Gordon Beckham led the dawg attack with three hits and made some nice plays in the field.
Up next for the Jackets is a big three game set with Clemson this weekend. Blake Wood will take the hill for Friday's 7pm start. The talk at the park was that the Jacket's will bring back David Duncan for a Sunday start. Tim Gustafson's shoulder is much better but it has not been determined what his role will be this weekend. Loyall Gause, recovering from foot surgery, was in the dougout for tonight's game.
The highlight of the evening was the dizzy bat race between Vu and "Retro Man". Vu became the first contestant in Tech history to be disqualified from the race.
