Jackets Sting Canes: Win Season Finale, 12-7

The Jacket bats responded to a Hurricane three run 7th inning with four runs of their own to retake the lead in route to a 12-7 victory.

Georgia Tech fans have been accustomed lately to seeing the bullpen hold our opponents down while our bats rally to pull out the game. Today we saw the roles reversed as Ryan Turner pitched 5.2 strong innings only to see the bullpen give up the lead.

The Jacket bats responded to a Hurricane three run 7th inning with 4 of their own to retake the lead in route to a 12-7 victory. Wally Crancer continued his hot hitting with a two run single in the 7th off of Andrew Lane. This is the same Lane that gave up the grandslam to Crancer Friday night. Whit Robbins and Jeff Kindel also chipped in with rbi in the 7th.

The Jackets power barrage continued as Luke Murton and Matt Wieters hit homers to stake the Jackets to a 6-0 lead earlier in the game. The homers were the 7th and 8th of the three game series for the Jackets.

Ryan Turner left the game with the lead only to have the Hurricanes rally against relievers Tim Ladd and Brad Rulon. Both Ladd and Rulon showed the effects of having pitched Thursday night. Neither was as sharp as their performances Thursday. Matt Wieters pitched the final two innings giving up a solo shot to Tommy Giles in the 8th. Giles led the Hurricanes in the weekend series with 7 hits.

Steven Blackwood had the defensive play of the game jumping above the centerfield wall to bring back a shot off of Ryan Turner. Coach Danny Hall rested injured Wes Hodges and moved senior Andy Hawranick behind the plate. Matt Wieters took over the dh role.

The Jackets have a 9am practice Monday and then head to Jacksonville following the practice. The Jackets will most likely face Miami again at 4pm Wednesday. The Jackets will be the #4 seed. This will occur unless FSU rallies against NC State. If that happens, we'll face FSU.

Don't be surprised to see a familar rotation for the championships. We might go back to last year's rotation of Blake Woood, Lee Hyde and Ryan Turner.

Once again thanks to seniors Steven Blackwood, Andy Hawranick, Jeff Kindel and Mike Trapani for their contributions to the program.
