Ambrose projects to be a DE in college but said, "Georgia Tech said if I grew a lot they may let me play defensive tackle." When asked which style of defense he prefers, he backed his own school with "I really like our defense; it's a 4-3 defense."
DaMario currently claims to hold offers from Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Virginia, Purdue, Memphis, Southern Illinois, UAB, and South Florida. He states his current top three are Georgia Tech, Purdue and West Virginia, in no particular order.
Distance is not a factor in choosing a school, he declared, but instead "academics will play a big part in my role of my recruitment." Education is evidently as important as athletics to Ambrose, who maintains a 3.5 GPA while playing both football and baseball. Another key factor in making his decision is that "I want to go to a school with a great atmosphere;" "mainly, I just want to feel like it's home."
A labrum (shoulder joint cartilage) injury he suffered pitching for the Warrior's baseball team has limited DeMario's attendance in summer camps. The only camp he has visited so far was at Alabama, but he was unable to fully participate because of the injury.
He plans to attend Georgia Tech camp in July and looks forward to meeting Calvin Johnson and the rest of the Yellow Jackets squad. Although he only briefly met with Coach Gailey during a speaking engagement at Davidson High School, DeMario says he has been in contact with coaches Charles Kelly and Giff Smith.
After a successful surgery on his shoulder approximately two months ago, he says that rehab is going well and the shoulder is "getting better, but right now I can't lift weights like I want to because it's not fully healed, but hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to start lifting weights again". Size, says the 6'4", 240lb. D-lineman, is the area where he needs the most improvement, after having to put weight training on hold since the injury and "that's a long time."
On the other hand, Ambrose asserts his biggest strength to be that "I'm pretty aggressive. I think that's the best part." And much like his NFL idols, Dwight Freeney and Julius Peppers, "I just like to hit." He further adds, "I'm a pretty good pass rusher. I can hold up the offensive line and play rundowns."
When asked about his timetable for choosing a school, Ambrose stated that he wasn't sure exactly when he would decide, but at the latest, it would be after the Warrior's football season ends. Ambrose declares his potential majors to be engineering or sports medicine, but is undecided between the two.
