When told he was going to announce on Thursday, Mario was asked which schools should pay most attention to the decision. Butler responded that his final three were, "Maryland, Georgia Tech and South Carolina."
Butler is not making a huge deal out of announcing his decision and won't have to go far to make his intension known.
"I'm just going to do it at the house," said Butler. "I'm just going to call the coaches from the school." When asked it he'd call coaches from all three schools to let them know too Butler responded, "Just the one I'm going to go with."
Fans love to try and read into every word to try and figure out where a player will end up but Mario kept very tight lipped about his decision and wasn't about to give all any obvious clues. He did have some final thoughts on his three finalists (in order of how he commented).
"On South Carolina, they're just a good program. They've got a lot of history behind Coach Steve Spurrier and Coach Steve Spurrier Jr.; he's doing a pretty good job of recruiting me. And I took an unofficial visit there. I liked it; it was pretty good. It was nice, a nice campus, nice facilities, a great program."
"Georgia Tech is just a real class place. Really, it's nice. It's great academically; all around the board it's just really nice. They have NFL experience on their coaching staff. I really enjoyed my unofficial visit there too. I got to see the academic counselors, tour the facilities, just tour the campus and stuff like that."
"I just came from Maryland and it really impressed me. I got a chance to meet most all of the coaches. It was just warm and you could tell that they wanted you. A lot of other people also came like Vernon Davis and Gerrick McPhearson. They were there too so I spoke with both of them for a little bit."
Mario expects to make his decision known in the late afternoon on Thursday, so stay tuned with Scout.com to find out where Butler will play ball his college in 2007.
