Tech Lands Bigtime Florida DT

In one of the biggest surprises of this young recruiting season, Sandalwood High School defensive tackle Jacoby Monroe verbally committed to Georgia Tech on Wednesday. Monroe, the #20 ranked defensive tackle in his class according to Scout.com, chose the Ramblin Wreck over offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina and Georgia among others.

In what can be described as one of the biggest surprises of this young recruiting season, Sandalwood High School defensive end Jacoby Monroe verbally committed to Georgia Tech on Wednesday. Monroe, the #20 ranked defensive tackle in his class according to Scout.com, chose the Yellow Jackets over offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina and Georgia among others. An All-Conference pick during an excellent sophomore campaign, Monroe didn't play football as a junior last season.

He was clearly one of the top prospects at the Scout.com All-American Combine in Jacksonville on March 19.

Georgia Tech has made runs at several highly-ranked recruits from Sandalwood in the past such as running back Maurice Wells only to come up short on Signing Day. Jacoby was recruited by Georgia Tech wide receiver coach Buddy Geis, whose son Adam coincidentally is the head coach at Sandalwood.
