As previously reported, Detroit wide receiver Cedric Everson (6-1, 175, 4.3), from Mumford High School, committed to Georgia Tech on Sunday.

"I chose them because they treated me more like a family," Everson said. "It was a gut feeling, but I kind of thought I might commit before I got there on an official visit with my dad. I had been there one time before in April and now I could see that what they had been telling me was really true. They have lots of new buildings going up.

"I just like the school and the coaches. They teach discipline. When Reggie Ball (quarterback) fumbled at the beginning of the Miami game, the team didn't get down. The team just came back and won. It wouldn't have mattered if they lost though. I already knew they had a good team and any team can have a bad day.

"The coaches at Georgia Tech are real," said Scout.com's No. 20 cornerback, a four-star prospect. "Coach (Chan) Gailey will let you talk to him in his office about anything. We can talk man-to-man. He pays attention and understands what I am talking about. On Saturday, before I committed, I was telling him what I wanted to do school-wise. Other coaches just want to talk about football a lot of the time.

"I also really like the fans at Georgia Tech. They made me a big poster that said, 'Cedric, We Want You!' They also had guys lined up in the end zone and painted on their backs it said, 'Cedric--Come Entertain Us!'

"On Sunday my dad and I were talking with coach Gailey in his office. He asked what I had learned about Georgia Tech on my visit. I told him that I wanted to commit to him. He had this big old smirk on his face like a two-year old kid who wanted some candy. Then he got up and gave me a big old hug.

"I'd say I'm 90% committed to Georgia Tech," Everson said. ""I'm really feeling Georgia Tech. I know I want to go there. But there is other stuff I'd like to see. I've never been to California. UCLA was my number two choice and I might like to see the scenery and check it out. I got text messages from Coach Mac (wide receiver coach D.J. McCarthy) and Coach (Karl) Dorrell. They wanted to know if I was committed to Georgia Tech and if I would still come and visit them. I didn't answer because I didn't know what to say.

"UCLA, Iowa, Penn State and Minnesota were my other favorites. I'll have to think about taking any other official visits. I probably won't. I don't think I'll take another trip. I'd say there's maybe a 20% chance I'd do that."

Final senior season (5-4) stats: 20 rec/256 yds/8 TDs; 35 carries/525 yds/7 TDs; 5 interceptions/85 tackles/4 sacks/3 fumbles recovered/1 fumble caused

Everson reports a 3.2 core GPA and an 18 ACT. "I'm already qualified but I'm gonna take the ACT again in December because I think I can get a 21 or a 22."
