Headlining the recruiting class are two AFLAC All-Americans, pitcher Neil Ramirez and shortstop Derek Dietrich. Ramirez is the No. 2 prep player in the nation and the top player from the state of Virginia, while Dietrich is the No. 40 prep player in the nation and the top player from the state of Ohio.
The recruiting class is said to be one of the best that Georgia Tech has signed in the last few years. Much of the credit belongs to Georgia Tech's Recruiting Coordinator, Josh Holliday.
Below is a list of all 13 Georgia Tech Commitments:
Neil Ramirez - RHP, R/R, 6-3, 190, Virginia Beach, VA (Kempsville HS)
#2 prep prospect in the nation, #1 high school player from Virginia, AFLAC All-American, member of Team USA junior national team. Neil is likely to be a high draft choice next year, so he may never make it onto the field in Atlanta (unless it's Turner Field).
Jarrod Parker - RHP, R/R, 6-2, 175, Bluffton, IN (Norwell, HS)
#21 prep prospect in the nation, #1 high school player from Indiana, member of Team USA junior national team. Jarrod is one of the best pitchers in the country. Along with Ramirez and Dietrich, he is another player who could possibly be lost to the MLB draft. He is a guy who could step on the field as a freshman and start immediately.
Derek Dietrich - SS/RHP, L/R, 6-1, 190, Parma, OH (St. Ignatius HS)
#40 prep prospect in the nation, #1 high school player from Ohio, AFLAC All-American. Derek has a rocket for an arm and could possibly pull double duty as a shortstop and a closer (similar to Matt Wieters). If he doesn't go pro, he will be a great addition to the Yellow Jacket baseball family.
Zach Brewster - LHP, L/L, 6-0, 175, Murryville, GA (North Hall HS)
#46 prep prospect in the nation, #4 high school player from Georgia. Zach is the perfect fit for the Georgia Tech curriculum with a GPA over 4.0. He is a southpaw with excellent movement who should be tough to hit.
Brandon Cumpton - RHP/IF, R/R, 6-1, 190, Evans, GA (Greenbriar HS)
#81 prep prospect in the nation, #6 high school player from Georgia. Brandon is another kid the coaches envision as a two-way player, splitting time in the infield and on the mound.
Cole Leonida - C/1B, R/R, 6-2, 205, Aurora, CO (Grandview HS)
#162 prep prospect in the nation, #1 high school player from Colorado. Cole is a big strong guy who will come in and challenge for a starting spot behind the plate from day one. He is a solid student as well.
Deck McGuire - RHP, R/R, 6-7, 225, Richmond, VA (Deep Run HS)
#202 prep prospect in the nation, #4 high school player from Virginia. Deck is the quarterback of the Deep Run HS football team. Standing 6-7 and 225 lbs, he has a very high ceiling in terms of how good he can be as a pitcher. As a junior, he struck out 100 batters in 59.1 innings. He is already friends with current Yellow Jacket, Patrick Long.
Taylor Wood - LHP, R/L, 6-6, 190, Suwannee, GA (Greater Atlanta Christian Academy)
#228 prep prospect in the nation. Taylor is the cousin of former Yellow Jacket pitcher, Blake Wood. He has been one of the top pitchers in the East Cobb Baseball Program since he was 16. Unlike Blake, Taylor is a lefty.
Kevin Jacob - RHP, R/R, 6-5, 195, Baltimore, MD (Parkville HS)
#271 prep prospect in the nation, #4 high school player from Maryland. He kind of flew under the radar a little bit, but the big righty from Baltimore has a 90+ MPH fastball and a nasty slider. During his junior year, Jacob struck out 103 while allowing only 10 walks.
Thomas Nichols - IF, L/R, 6-2, 180, Leesburg, GA (Lee County HS)
#277 prep prospect in the nation. Thomas is a great all-around player. He is a left-handed hitter who can play several positions.
Matt Simonds - IF, R/R, 6-2, 195, Atlanta, GA (Pace Academy)
#483 prep prospect in the nation. Matt is a product of an East Cobb baseball program that has produced tons of major league talent. He will most likely play 1B or 3B for the Jackets. In addition to being a tremendous athlete, he is also an excellent student.
Chase Burnette - OF, L/L, 6-2, 190, Buford, GA (Buford HS)
Chase is a great athlete with a lot of potential. He split time between football and baseball while at Buford. He is very fast and should continue to improve as he focuses solely on baseball.
Jeffrey Rowland - OF, L/L, 5-11, 175, Evans, GA (Greenbriar HS)
Rowland is teammates at Greenbriar HS with another GT signee, Brandon Cumpton. He has drawn comparisons to former Yellow Jacket Danny Payne. He has a knack for stealing bases (he stole 35 during his junior year at Greenbriar).
GoJackets.com will continue to monitor the progress of this year's baseball commitments as well as those who joined the team earlier this year.
