The Dukes jumped to a one run lead on a fly ball that eluded freshman Matt Harper for a triple in the top of the first. Duquense tallied another solo run in the third but the Jackets rallied for 5 runs over the next three innings. Once again, Michael Fisher led the way with three hits and a walk. Wally Crancer continued his torrid hitting with two more hits to raise his average to .542. Matt Wieters also collected two hits. Fisher has raised his average to .317 after starting the week with a .200 average.
The Jacket bullpen performed well again despite a hiccup in the ninth. Jared Hyatt went 1 2/3 innings without allowing a run. Danny Payne pitched a scoreless eighth and then came in to get the final out in the ninth. Freshman Andrew Robinson made his first appearance of the year surrendering three runs before Payne put out the fire.
Chris House who entered the game as a defensive replacement delivered what proved to be the key hit of the game with a bases loaded double in the bottom of the eighth. His three RBIs turned out to be the margin of victory after Robinson gave up three runs in the top of the ninth.
New and Notes - Matt Harper made his first start of the year in left field. He is the fourth different player to start there. Tony Plagman made his second consecutive start in the two slot. Today's lineup was shuffled with Brad Feltes getting the start at third for Patrick Long and Harper getting the start in left.
The Jackets continue to struggle with the bases loaded and less than two outs. Danny Payne had the distinction of making two separate appearances as a reliever. Because of the shuffling by Coach Danny Hall, the Jackets no longer had a position player as a DH going into the ninth. Pitcher Andrew Robinson assumed the DH role when he entered the game in the ninth. Curtis Dupart, Chris House, and Jay Dantzler all made appearances in the outfield as a result of the DH and pitching changes.
