Below is a snipet from today's inaugural spring practice reports:
7. We did a little more 2-back sets today than we have been doing. Trevor Bray got to see some time as starting fullback. He did miss one block on Gary Guyton which lead to a backfield tackle on Tashard Choice. And Gary made sure to let TC know when he got the better of the offense on that play. But since we're not always in the traditional sets, Trevor did get to line up in many different spots. He even ran a couple of deep routes. He moves very well for a big kid and looks comfortable in the passing game.
8. Andrew Smith seems to be the main punt returner right now.
9. The big early surprise for me is Brad Sellers as a tight end. He made another super catch today on an out route. I'm starting to think he has some really good hands and determination to make plays. On another play he determination hurt him but I really love this move so far. There was a ball being thrown (possibly out of bounds) and he rose up and got a hand on it. It deflected slightly and stayed just in bounds and was picked off (by walk-on LB Carter Scurry, I believe).
10. Calvin Booker had a better practice. He threw three nice balls in a row with some zip on it. Whether he makes it as a QB or eventually goes to another position, you have to like his determination to try and make it as a QB. He's working hard for face time with the coaches and it getting into every huddle (even if he's not in). He'll always stand next to the coaches and always looks ready to go in. The guys in the stands appreciated his desire to be there.
