"We sat down with Coach (John) Tenuta and talked about the defense," said Thomas. "I went and saw the facilities and met with a couple of academic advisors. Then sat down with Coach (Chan) Gailey and… really had a good time – saw some of the dorms."
Did Chase learn anything new about Tech while on his visit that he didn't know before?
"At first I thought Tech was kind of a city campus but once you're in there it really didn't feel like that at all," said Thomas. "It's like its own place inside. That's a little different than I thought it was going to be. It was a lot bigger and secluded."
Thomas, who had taken one visit to GT before for a Junior Day a couple of months ago, spent a lot of the day being hosted by his recruiting coach RB Coach Curtis Modkins. He also met with LB Coach Brian Jean-Mary as he would be Chase's position coach should he choose to be a Yellow Jacket. Some schools like Thomas as a defensive end but he told me Tech likes him as an outside linebacker.
With the possibility of taking up to 5 official visits in the fall, Thomas already has in mind 3 of the schools that are sure to be on his list for visits. "Georgia Tech, Auburn, and LSU, maybe a couple of others," said Thomas. "I'm not sure if I'm going to use all five of them."
No other unofficial visits are planned for this week unless he can make his way down to LSU.
When asked how GT figured into his favorites list after this visit, Chase said, "Like my top 3." Rounding out that top three are the same schools he mentioned for official visits meaning Auburn and LSU are the other major players for his services.
As a main factor for making a decision Chase is looking for a good comfort level with coaches, players and campus. As for a timeframe for his decision, he doesn't really have one at this point. "Not really, I just want to take my official visits and then I'll probably give my final decision after that," said Thomas.
