Richard, I understand that you had a visitor from Georgia Tech make an in-home visit with you?
"Yes sir, Coach Kelly, who is my recruiting coach, came to see me and talk about the new staff at Georgia Tech and how they think I'll be a great addition to the team."
What did Coach Kelly have to say?
"He answered my questions on how the new offense will be and how I will be an important part of it. The visit was great and it made me feel right with my decision to stay committed to Georgia Tech."
Have you spoken to Coach Johnson as well?
"Yes sir, Coach Johnson called me on the Wednesday before Coach Kelly visited. He told me that I was a top priority. They really want to keep me on board for the 2008 recruiting class. He mentioned that I would be a great fit in his offense and that I would have a chance to play right away. Everything he said made me feel at ease about my commitment to the Yellow Jackets."
Well, that answered my next question if you are a solid commitment to Georgia Tech.
"Yes, I am still very solid to Georgia Tech and I feel better about it after talking to Coach Johnson and Coach Kelly."
What is your impression of Coach Johnson after talking with him?
"I like him a lot. You look at where he's been, he has been very successful at each place and he knows what it takes to win and will do what it takes. Also, I like the fact that he is very straight forward. You can tell he cares about his players very much even by talking to him on the phone. He was very honest with me and I really liked that a lot. You can't ask for more than that from a coach. He didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear - he was very open and honest with me. That was one of the big things that made me feel better about my decision."
What do you plan on majoring in at Georgia Tech?
"I want to go to business school and major in business."
Well, with Georgia Tech having one of the higher ranked business schools, is that another factor in you staying with the Jackets?
"Yes sir, in fact it is a big factor. I know Georgia Tech has a well respected business school and the fact that I like the school, it comes together."
On a personal note, we talked about his last game as a high school player. Richard and his teammates played for the state championship but lost after having won it last year. They failed to repeat, but Richard had a big game gaining 131 yards on only 13 carries and scoring one touchdown.
We also talked about us getting together again so he can let me know when he will make an official visit to Georgia Tech. He wanted to come on the 11th of January, but his high school is having their banquet on the 12th so that weekend is out. He feels that he will be coming in on the weekend of the 18th, but he's not sure just yet. We will talk after his visit so he can describe how it went.
I thoroughly enjoyed talking with Richard. He is a well spoken young man and you can tell he's very honest and open with you.
