The 6'3", 245-pound defensive end from Virginia has taken one official visit to date and that was to Old Dominion. This weekend he's be in Atlanta to take an official visit to the Georgia Tech campus. He says he'll follow up that visit with trips to Tennessee, Virginia Tech and then Maryland. He doesn't anticipate falling in love with any one school and ending the process before taking all four remaining visits. "I believe I would still take them all," said Jones.
Georgia Tech is a very new name on his list of favorites. Paul Johnson was named the new GT coach in December and since coming over has had the new Yellow Jacket staff add names to the list of players they had already offered. Jones is apparently one of those newly targeted players for Coach Johnson. "They just became involved like less than a week ago," said Jones. Tech coaches Giff Smith (Defensive Line/Recruiting Coordinator) and Brian Jean-Mary (Linebackers) are recruiting Jones for GT.
Jones has a connection to the state of Georgia though. He says he grew up in Brunswick which is in South Georgia. He moved to Virginia for the 8th, 9th and 10th grades then lived in Tennessee for the 11th before moving back to Virginia this past year for his senior season at Green Run High in Virginia Beach.
All teams recruiting Joe like him as a defensive end. He has received offers from Connecticut, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Old Dominion. Joe was asked about Tennessee specifically since they are on his official visit list. Jones replied, "They told me that if they bring you in on a visit then that is basically offering you, but I'm not sure."
Joe listed his current top three as Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. If there were a fourth team, it would be Maryland.
