Jones arrived to the GT campus on Friday. Some of the activities of the day included a campus tour, meeting with academic personnel, "fancy" dining, and meeting his player host. His host for the trip was Yellow Jacket star defensive end Michael Johnson. Joe and "Stretch" seemed have gotten along well on the visit. "He was a real cool person," said Jones.
On Saturday Joe got a better look at some of the athletic facilities. "We toured the locker room, the training room and the weight room," said Jones. After eating at the ESPN Zone, Joe rested some at the Hotel before going to hang out more with Michael Johnson and some of the other players. They watched some of the NFL playoffs though Joe didn't get the results there he was hoping for. "I was hoping the Jaguars would win," said Jones.
Before flying out on Sunday afternoon Joe met with new Tech coach Paul Johnson for about 10 minutes. Joe said that the visit went well and that Coach Johnson asked him how things were. "I told him I liked it," said Jones. "It was pretty good. I'm originally from Georgia, so I have a lot of family around here."
Overall Joe rated the visit a 9 out of 10. He was most impressed with the city of Atlanta and really liked downtown. When asked if there were any parts of the visit he found disappointing he replied, "Not really."
The next step for Joe is to see the campuses of Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Maryland and compare them to the visit he took to GT. When comparing the 4 finalists he's going to look at how the schools are academically and, "Whether or not I'm going to get on the field (early)," said Jones.
With depth being one of the factors, he plans on studying how he would fit on each team's depth chart. "Yeah, that's what I'm going to do when I get home," said Jones about making those comparisons.
Tech coaches Giff Smith (Defensive Line/Recruiting Coordinator) and Brian Jean-Mary (Linebackers) are recruiting Jones for GT. He finally got to meet both face-to-face for the first time over the weekend. "A lot of the guys told me about Coach Smith and how cool he was," said Jones. And Jones seemed to agree with what he had heard about both Coach Smith and Coach BJ and said they made a favorable impression.
