Julian, I notice that Westside had a good season last year, what does the team look like for the upcoming season?
"We hope to be even better than last season and we feel we will not do worse than what we did last season. We have aspirations to play for state."
I notice that you have really good speed. Do you play mainly middle linebacker or do you get a chance to play outside as well?
"The coaches prefer me to stay in the middle because of my style of play and the fact that they want my speed in the middle. I do play fullback on offense especially on short yardage and goal line situations as I can hit the hole quick and get the yardage."
What do you consider you best traits as a football player?
"My speed and my toughness are my best traits. I can get to the ball carrier quick, real quick and I love to hit."
Georgia Tech had their Junior Day the other weekend and I see you attended. How did you enjoy that experience?
"I liked it a lot, it is a great environment. Georgia Tech is a great place. I've been there before as I camped there last summer. I most likely will camp there this year too."
Did you get a chance to meet any of the coaches?
"I met Coach Brian Jean-Mary first off. I remembered him from camp and he came over and told me he remembered me from camp as well. We talked a lot and I feel we have a very good relationship."
Okay, what schools are you hearing from right now?
Would you have a favorite or a leader of that group?
"Right now I'd say maybe Clemson and Florida State are my top two with Georgia Tech behind them. I know its along time until I sign for a college, but as of now, I'd say those are my top ones."
What do you feel will be the most important factor will be in deciding what school you attend?
"I know it will be academics. The NFL is the dream of all players, but not all make it. So, I know I need to have a great education to fall back on. I will look at every aspect of the school. Academics, does it have a good football program, and how comfortable I feel there. I know whatever school I go to, I will have to work hard to earn playing time. It is not just handed to you. You have to earn it and I look forward to earning mine."
You mention academics, would you be one of the few that enroll early or do you think you will wait until signing day next year?
"Right now, I am taking AP and gifted classes in high school and I am qualified with my GPA and I am waiting on my SAT scores to come in to see If I meet the requirements. I feel that I should have no problem with the scores. I'd like to enroll early, but I might wait until the traditional signing day and go from there. I have to see how everything plays out."
Do your parents have a preference on where you go?
"No sir, they are leaving that up to me. The main schools I like are all within driving distance so that is not a problem for them. They say it's my decision and one that I should make for myself and not anyone else."
Julian was leaving school to head home and he was nice enough to take the time to do this interview. He came across as a very likable person; one that is very humble but confident in his ability on the field. He is looking forward to his senior year of football and is excited as to what the recruiting process will be. This was the first of what I hope will be many conversations between us.
