Joseph, what trips have you made so far this year?
"I have gone to Junior Days at Texas Tech and Northwestern. I really enjoyed both trips and had good times at each. I think the Northwestern trip was a better one because of the academics they showed that they could offer me as a student there."
What schools are recruiting you right now?
Would you have a favorite right now?
No sir, I am open right now. I've been to a few schools on visits last year and still will use that info in making my decision."
Which ones did you go to last year?
"I went to Notre Dame and really liked the campus there, the way it is set up and all. I also spent time in Atlanta last year too. I went to a lot of their practices and at that time, I felt Georgia Tech was the place for me. I liked them a lot. I like the fact the campus is set in Atlanta, but you still have that small town feel while you are on the campus. I also like that it is a small population student-wise too. They have my film and they are still recruiting me very hard despite the coaching change. I like the fact that Liam Klein was kept on as well as the recruiting coordinator, Giff Smith, as I got to know them. I also read an article that one out of six graduates from Georgia Tech becomes a millionaire, I think that is awesome."
What about the other schools on your list, what is appealing about them?
I like Vandy because they are in the SEC and they are a top notch academic school.
I like Alabama because they are in the SEC.
I like Virginia because they seem to be in the top 20 each year and they are a top notch public university too.
North Carolina is a school I'd like to get to know more about because they have been recruiting me too.
UConn is a school that I want to know more about as well.
I have family at Northwestern and that plays a part in why I am interested in them as well as their academics."
If you had to set up your five official visits today, who would get the visits?
"I know I want to go to these five schools: Georgia Tech, UConn, Vandy, Notre Dame and Northwestern would be my five."
What factors will be the ones you use to make a decision on your college choice?
"How I feel at the school is very important. I don't mind going away to college, but I want to have that family feeling while I am away from my real family and I want to feel comfortable at that school. Also, academics are real big to me too. I want to get a degree that means something and that can help me after football. Finally, success on the football field is important. One of my high school coaches was on one of the Oklahoma National Championship teams and he showed us his ring, it would be nice to have a chance for one of those too."
Do you think you will make an early decision or wait until your senior season is over?
"At first, I thought I would wait until my senior year of football was done and then make my decision but after talking it over with my coach, I feel that I will be making an early decision so I can concentrate on my last year of football in high school and have the recruiting behind me."
How about your high school team, how do you think your team will do this year?
"We have eight starters coming back on defense and seven coming back on offense but we lost a couple of very key players, like our quarterback who passed and ran for over 1,000 yards last year. I feel that if we can get players settled in those key positions and get them comfortable, we will be tough to beat."
What positions do you play?
"I play offensive tackle and guard and defensive tackle. I am being recruited to play defense by some schools and offense by others. I don't have a preference though."
Joseph knows that it is tough to play in the NFL and wants to go to a top academic school so he can get a quality education. You can tell by the list of schools he is looking at that academics plays a big part in his recruiting. He is very talented on the field too.
