With the completion of the wide receiver interviews, we at GoJackets.com will now focus our attention on running backs for our 2009 Georgia Tech recruiting preview.
This week we'll take a look at the running back position. Included in this group will be "B-backs" or the power back in the offense and the two "A-back" positions where we'll be looking for players that are homerun hitters, blockers, and pass catchers. Included in our interviews will be players from both positions. Some of the recruits currently listed as wide receivers could eventually end up in the slot back position. Rico Mack
and Braxton Lane
are two such examples. Look for more new names to pop up as we get deeper into the recruiting season. This would be especially true at the A-back position.
Jahron Brown – 6'0" – 220 from East Paulding. Jahron is a bruising runner who would be a perfect fit for the B-back position.
Diante Drake – 5'11" – 198 from Central Gwinnett. Georgia Tech is one of his early leaders.
Daniel Drummond – 6'3" – 230 from Flowery Branch. Daniel is a prototype B-back who has Georgia Tech and Auburn as his early leaders.
Everett Gilbert – 5'11" – 175 from Rockwall, Texas. Gilbert is a dual threat running back who runs a 4.48.
Kyle Griswould – 6'0" -185 from Shaw HS in Columbus, Ga. Kyle attended our elite junior day. He can also play WR in addition to being an A back.
David Oku – 5'9" – 174 from Oklahoma City. He's a four star that's gotten offers from many major programs including Georgia Tech. He'll be an A-back.
Orwin Smith – 6'0" – 190 from Phenix City. He has offers from Auburn, Alabama and Georgia Tech. He attended Tech's elite junior day.
Toney Williams – 6'1" – 227 from Milton H.S. He recently received an offer from Georgia Tech. He'll most likely be a B-back. He too attended our elite junior day.
Dasarte Yarnway – 6'0" – 210 from San Francisco. Dasarte is another B-back option. He visited last spring and will be visiting again this spring.
Eric Stephens – 5'7" – 171 from Arlington, Texas. Eric is an A-back capable of being the homerun hitter we're looking for at that position.
Kendial Lawrence – 5'10" – 190 from Rockwall Heath H.S., TX. Lawrence was first team 4A all-state in Texas. He'll be attending our summer camp.
