Terrence Shannon's Recruitment Heating Up

Terrence Shannon, a 4-Star, 6'7 230 PF prospect in the class of 2009, is beginning to see his stock rise this summer. GoJackets.com spent some time with him to see how his summer and recruitment are coming along.

This past weekend, Terrence Shannon and his Atlanta Celtics teammates came away with their first ever Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions title, and according to Terrence this could be just the beginning. "This is the first time that we have won this tournament, I didn't even know that. Before we went up there, coach had a talk with the team and told us that this could be the start of our summer. I think that we have a good enough team to win the rest of them if we stay focused."

High energy guy, hard worker, team player, these are all terms that could be used to describe Terrence Shannon, so it comes as no surprise that he is working hard this summer to make improvements to his game. "My main goal this summer is to just keep getting better…Continue to work on my free throws and jump shot." Terrence also prides himself in doing whatever he can to help his team win. "Well..the strength of my game is getting to loose balls..In my mind, if it is there, I'm going to get the ball, and I have an advantage over other bigs because I think that I run the floor better."

It is also clear that he places a high emphasis on rebounding and defense as well, "For my height, I rebound the ball extremely well…With me, I'm a defensive player..I figure that if I play hard on defense that it will open my offensive game up. In my mind, if I'm not scoring, I'm going to do whatever I can to make the person I'm guarding not score either."

A player with this type of skill set and attitude doesn't go unnoticed, and he has high interest from almost every major school in the southeast, and they all seem to be coming at him strong. "Basically there are a lot of schools recruiting me..It's really hard to say." However, there are a couple of factors that Mr. Shannon will consider before making his choice. "Well..I mean, they're going to have to have good academics..That's number one, we're student athletes first. As far as basketball wise, I want to play for a fast paced team…one that gets up and down the floor."

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are one of the teams that are involved with Terrence. "Georgia Tech came to a few of my high school games. They're really recruiting me hard." It looks like Terrence is taking his time with his recruitment, and he mentioned that a decision timeframe is most likely sometime in the fall. "I'll probably make my decision before or right after basketball season starts."

GoJackets.com will continue to track Terrence's recruitment, and hopefully we're able to catch him in person for a more thorough scouting report later this month when Terrence and the Atlanta Celtics play in the GBOA (Grassroots Basketball of America) South held in Atlanta, GA on June 28-29.
