One More Visit Planned for Ricky Johnson

With the summer coming to a close, two-sport star Ricky Johnson from Carencro, La. is spending one of his final free weeks playing in the national AAU senior basketball tournament for the Yam City Dribblers.

When we caught up with's 80th ranked wide receiver, Ricky Johnson's team had just won their final game in the pool portion of the AAU tournament and will now advance into the bracket portion of the tournament.

Johnson's summer has not been all basketball as he recently attended the three day LSU football camp. Ricky said that it was a fun camp and that he got to meet all of the LSU coaches. Ricky's top three hasn't changed as LSU, Arkansas, and Georgia Tech are still his top three. Johnson also mentioned that he has been hearing a lot from Texas A&M lately.

When we last talked to Ricky, he had mentioned that he was going to try and make a trip to Georgia Tech following the LSU camp. When asked about that, Ricky replied that he's making arrangements to visit Tech the weekend of August 8th and 9th. This will be his last free weekend before Carencro's season starts. Ricky has been staying in touch with Georgia Tech secondary coach Charles Kelly.

Johnson is still exploring the idea of playing both football and basketball in college. Tulane, Tulsa, and Georgia Tech are the schools that have been talking to him about playing both sports. Johnson's high school basketball coach has been in contact with the Georgia Tech staff.

After this week, Ricky's focus will switch from basketball to football. Johnson's plans to make a decision before the start of the season are still on track although they may be delayed a week with his trip to Georgia Tech coming a little later than originally planned. Once that decision is made, Ricky will be able to concentrate on having a successful senior season. Top Stories
