Tech picks up commit #5 from All-State LB

Georgia Tech has picked up its first in-state commitment today, and it's from an all-state linebacker from one of the top schools in Georgia.

Georgia Tech recruiting is beginning to pick up steam. Earlier this week the Jackets picked up a commitment from Ohio offensive lineman Kevin Tuminello, and now they can add linebacker Phillip Wheeler of Shaw High School in Columbus, GA  to the list of verbals.

"Phillip is 6-2 and 215 pounds and runs a 4.6 for us," said Shaw Head Coach Charles Flowers. "He play outside linebacker and defensive end for us. He was All-State last year as a junior, has a great work ethic and is very talented. He committed to Georgia Tech yesterday. He also had offers from Alabama and Mississippi State, and Auburn was recruiting him heavily as well."

Wheeler is a very good student that has already made a qualifying test score on his SAT.
