Many prospects from the class of 2009 have made their commitments to schools by now. It's not as easy for Darren Myles, Scout.com's 12th rated safety. The 4 star prospect hasn't even narrowed things down yet.
"I have no list yet. There'll be one soon though. This is harder than we (he and his father) thought it would be."
So with that in mind, what schools are recruiting Darren the hardest?
"Georgia Tech is recruiting me the hardest. They're doing everything they can. Also, West Virginia, Alabama, and LSU."
He went on and broke down a couple things he likes about each of these schools:
Georgia Tech: "I like the structure of the team, their new coach. I like Coach Paul Johnson. I like Coach (Buzz) Preston, too."
West Virginia: "I like (wide receivers) Coach Galloway. I've always liked their team, with Pat White."
Alabama: "Coach Saban. He knows what it takes to get to the next level. When I was there (in the summer) they had all their academics out for me, like a gameplan. It was really organized."
LSU: "They've always been a favorite. There my hometown team. I'm from New Orleans. I like Coach Miles."
Darren was set to visit UGA for the game with Alabama, however he and his father couldn't find any gas. He has no visits planned yet and couldn't think of any teams off the top of his head that he wanted to go see play right now. He mentioned USC (Southern Cal) as a team he may consider besides the four that are recruiting him hard right now. Myles has many offers and is being recruited as a safety by all schools except Kentucky who wants him as a receiver on offense.
What might entice Myles to choose a school? He mentioned publicity and getting a diploma, those were important. He also said location won't be a factor.
So how is he doing so far this season?
"We (Carver HS) started off slow. But, we're bouncing back now. I've got 26 tackles and 7 receptions on offense. I've also played some quarterback. Nobody's throwing my way so I have no interceptions yet."
