The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have now picked up three commitments in the last few days - quarterback Reggie Ball, defensive tackle Mansfield Wrotto and defensive tackle Leshawn Newberry, Newberry, 6-2 and 319 pounds, is from Port Orange (Fla.) Spruce Creek High School. This season, he recorded 75 tackles.

"I committed to Georgia Tech on Sunday," said Newberry. "I visited them this weekend with the intent on committing because I have wanted to go to Georgia Tech for a while now. They need inside guys and I really think it is possible that I get in the rotation next season if I do the right things. Plus, a degree from Tech on your resume really stands out."

Newberry can play nose guard and defensive tackle. At one point, Miami was recruiting him and Florida State had recently requested film from him.

While at Georgia Tech, Newberry did get a chance to spend some time with Coach Chan Gailey and attend a practice.

"Coach Gailey is a real nice guy. I really like him a lot. I also have a lot of respect for Coach (Patrick) Nix. The first time he called I knew Tech was for me. He seemed very genuine and spent a lot of time on the phone with me.

"Practice was awesome. That was a good experience for me because I knew they weren't kidding when they said they need defensive linemen."

Newberry also attended Georgia Tech's summer football camp. Top Stories
