Many schools have gotten involved with recruiting Walton HS lineman Kyle Woestmann. Aside from Vanderbilt and Maryland scholarship offers, Georgia Tech has given a verbal offer and schools like Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Alabama and Wake Forest are showing interest among others.
Much is being thought about what position Kyle will play. Will he play on the offensive or defensive line? Kyle says his preference is defense, but he's not set on it.
"I'm open to either offense or defense. My heart is not set on defense, but that is a preference. I'm not setting my heart on defensive tackle. I'm definitely not saying defense only."
The reason this is an issue is that every school seems to approach Kyle different. Vanderbilt wants him on their defensive line. Georgia Tech wants him on offense only. Tech will not give Kyle a written offer until he's fully understanding he would be going there to play offense. As for Maryland, they're telling him either offense or defense.
"[Maryland] said they'll give me a look at defense which is what I would hope for in a school. Just give me the shot, then switch me to offense if I don't perform well enough."
As for Georgia Tech, who is waiting to hear if Kyle is totally willing to play offense, what is Kyle's response to them?
"I'm definitely not closing doors. I'm not 100% on what I'm going to do. You never know what can happen. I'm going to try to get as many looks as I can, then decide what's best."
Kyle says UGA may be close to offering, they seem to want him on the O-line as well. Things also picked up fast with Oklahoma, who is looking at him as a defensive tackle. The Sooners are going to evaluate him very soon, and if the tape is not enough, he may go camp out there this summer. Florida also is sending him hand-written letters. The Gators' O-line coach wants him to come camp in Gainesville.
Will he be getting any time to visit the in-state schools' spring practices?
"Yeah, I'm hoping to visit Tech and Georgia. I want to get to Tech pretty soon and hang out with (Co-Offensive line coaches) Sewak and Spencer. Coach Searles at UGA wants me to come spend some time in Athens."
