GT Heats Up Talk with Thornton

Stephenson High's Michael Thornton has been hearing from Georgia Tech more now than in the past. With several other schools consistently recruiting him, however, where does that put the Yellow Jackets in the pecking order?

Michael Thornton - Profile

How has spring practice been going for you?

"It has been going real good. We begin our second week of practice Monday and we will have our spring game on Thursday. There have been a lot of coaches stopping by my school during practice and some new ones that have started looking at me."

What are the new schools that have started showing interest in you?

So far, the ones that have been talking to my coaches about me are Oklahoma, Arkansas, Clemson, and Alabama. Those along with the other schools that have offered me have been at practice."

How about the state schools, Georgia Tech and Georgia?

Georgia Tech has started recruiting me pretty hard lately. Coach Brian Jean-Mary has shown a lot interest in me and they are working to get back in the picture. I haven't heard much at all from Georgia though."

Where would you put Georgia Tech in your pecking order?

"I'd say there are in the middle of the pack. I want to get back over there to see everything again. I went to their Junior Day and had a good time. I just need to re-establish a good relationship with the coaches and then maybe things can change with them. I like them but it seemed we didn't talk much after February until a few weeks ago."

What position on the line would you say you are being recruited for?

"Right now I am being recruited as a nose tackle or the 3 gap/technique tackle."

Which schools are recruiting you the hardest right now?

"I'd say that Auburn, South Carolina, and Ole Miss are recruiting very hard right now."

Would you say you have a leader right now?

"No sir I cannot. In fact I will probably sit down this weekend and evaluate all the schools recruiting me and come up with a list of my favorite schools once spring football is over."

Have you set up any summer camps?

No sir I haven't set up any that I will attend but I know I will be going to about two or three camps and then the rest of the summer I will be going on unofficial visits. I really don't see myself going to that many camps this summer."

Dale's Take: Michael was very upbeat about his recruiting. He was happy to see some new teams enter into his recruitment and that Georgia Tech has re-entered the picture. He didn't say it was too late for Tech but that they had some ground to make up and that he'd like to re-establish his relationships with the Tech coaches. Top Stories
