Gabe Henderson - Profile

How did your spring practice go this year?

"Man, it went really well. We accomplished a lot this year. We were able to install a lot more plays into our spread offense and we were able to get players some valuable experience for the upcoming season."

How do you feel your team will do this year?

"I think we will be better than last year. Last year we were knocked out in the 3rd round of the play offs. So far this year, everyone has been telling us that we should be one of the top 2 teams in 4AA. I feel we will be a strong team to win state."

What do you have planned for the summer for your recruiting?

"I have a good many visits set up for June and a couple for July as we start school on July 26th so July will not be as busy with visits as June."

What visits do you have set up for June?

"I will be going to East Carolina this Sunday for a one day camp. I will be going to Georgia Tech on the 10th for the two-day portion of their quarterback position camp or the 13th for their elite invitation camp. On the 19th I will travel to Tennessee for their camp and finally on the 24th I will go to North Carolina State for their camp."

How about July?

"Since school starts on July 26th, I will be going to just two camps. One I know will be Virginia and the other one I haven't decided on at this time."

How many offers do you have to date?

"I have four offers, Kent State, North Carolina A&T, Buffalo, and Western Carolina. I also have verbal offers from Virginia and Virginia Tech."

I understand you have been in close contact with Georgia Tech lately?

"Yes sir, I have. I have talked with Coach Johnson once and I have developed a real close relationship with Coach Spencer. Through him, I am very familiar with the coaches there and also what type of offense they run. Coach Spencer is real high on me. He told me how much he feels I am different from the quarterbacks they have right now. He feels I can come in and really challenge for playing time as a red-shirt freshman. In fact one day we were talking at my school and he called Coach Johnson and told him that through my film and what he has seen of me that I was the best quarterback Georgia Tech has been recruiting this year. That was something really special to hear."

Do you have a favorite at this time?

"I wouldn't say any school is a leader but I have a top three of sorts and Georgia Tech, even though they haven't offered, is one of those three. If they were to offer they would really move up high on my list even more."

How would you describe yourself as a quarterback?

"I am a quarterback that really likes to run the ball, but I can also throw it very well. I feel I can adapt to any type offense out there even though we run a spread more similar to the one at West Virginia. I feel I can adjust to the spread option offense like Tech runs with no problems."

Have you set up any of your five official visits?

"No sir, not yet but I do know that Georgia Tech and East Carolina will be two of the schools getting one."

Have you decided on timetable for selecting a college?

"Not a specific date per say but I do know that I will have a decision before my season starts and possibly even before school starts."

Dale's Take:

Gabe was an absolute pleasure to interview. He has a busy summer set up and is really looking forward to going to the camp at Georgia Tech as he and Coach Spencer have developed a very good and close relationship. I feel something could happen with Gabe during his camp visit. Top Stories
