Charles Perkins - Profile

Charles Perkins is one the best running backs in the state of Georgia. He could have punched his ticket to just about any school he wanted. He chose Georgia Tech and chose them on February 1st of his junior year.

When did Georgia Tech start recruiting you?

"It was during my sophomore season. Coach Gailey and his staff were recruiting me very hard and I started building a good relationship with them. When Coach Gailey was let go, I wasn't sure how Tech would fit into my recruitment, so I was basically pretty open after having Tech as one of my top choices."

When did the new staff start recruiting you?

"Coach Monken started recruiting me very hard during the middle of my junior year. He showed me that they really wanted me and were very open and honest with me. I got to build a good relationship with the new staff and it seemed like it was before with Tech and me when Coach Gailey was there."

What make the new staff click with you?

"I started looking at their track record and saw they were always winners and had good teams on the field. I knew then that Georgia Tech was the school I wanted. I went to a couple of their bowl practices and loved what I saw. I talked with Coach Johnson and told him that I was probably going to commit the next time I saw them. I came in on their first Junior Day on February 1st and told the staff that I was making my decision to come to Georgia Tech. I knew it was the place for me. My new home if you will."

Was Tech the first school to offer you?

"Yes sir, they were and that went a long way into helping me decide on them. They showed me that they really wanted me and Coach Johnson told me he loved my playing style. He says I have the body type that can play both the A-Back and B-Back position and I love the offense they run. Plus, Coach Johnson is a winner and knows his offense. It was just an easy decision for me.

Did you talk with any other players after you committed to come to Tech?

"I talked with Denzel McCoy, probably my best friend about coming in with me. Plus, I still talk with Shawn Green and about coming to Tech. This class even though it will be small, we want it to be one of the best classes that Tech brings in over the years."
