Tell me about how this season has gone for you and your team?
"We beat Independence last week and play in the (4-AA) State Finals at North Carolina State on Saturday. I was really proud of my last game (7 tackles, 6 pass breakups, a forced fumble and a hit they're still talking about)."
You've been to a Georgia Tech home game. What were your impressions of that visit?
"It was an awesome game and afterward I got to spend some time with safety Morgan Burnett. We play the same position and that was cool. I also got to meet some of the coaches."
That's not the only time you saw Tech play this season, is it?
"No sir. I had an official visit to Duke and saw them there again."
What schools have tendered offers to you?
Rumors are you're very interested in Florida schools. Even though you're just a junior, have you set up a priority list?
"I wasn't a fan of [Georgia] Tech before my visit, but that really changed my mind. Of course, the three main Florida schools are at the top - Florida, Florida State and Miami. And, I'm a North Carolina fan. I've gotten a lot of mail from a number of schools and of course, Georgia Tech is up there."
What criteria will you use to pick a school?
"I will probably go to a school on the East Coast, so location is important. I really liked the Georgia Tech environment, being near downtown Atlanta…so environment is also important. I'm interested in engineering, so that points to Georgia Tech. And, my ability to start early on in my (college) career is a big plus."
Do you know when you'll decide?
"I imagine I'll hear from a lot more schools when the season is over. (Alabama Coach) Nick Saban and Oregon were at our practice yesterday and I'm on the watch list for the Under Armour (High School All-American game) next season. So, I probably will wait until next year."
It doesn't hurt that you're undefeated and have a number of stars, including (junior) quarterback Christian LeMay (also a Tech prospect) on your team?
"Yes sir. Christian is just awesome. He's got a lot of schools after him."
When his season concludes, Mark will be involved in track where he runs the 100, 200 yard dashes and is a member of the 4x100 (yd.) and 4x200 (yd.) relay teams. He plans on taking the SAT in the near future and holds a 3.2 GPA. It may bode well that Mark's namesake dad played college football in Atlanta at Morris Brown.
