Derrick McQueen - Back From the AA Combine

Maynard Jackson quarterback Derrick McQueen made a recent trip to the US Army All American combine in San Antonio, Texas. Derrick talked to about the combine and his plans to attend a few Junior Days.

Derrick McQueen - Profile

How was the combine?

"It went well. There were over 500 of the top junior athletes there and I think I did very well. There were a lot of top quarterbacks and I think I held my own against all the top talent. I was told that I had good mechanics and used my shoulder very well in my throws. The scouts there said I made really nice throws in the camp."

What were your measurables from the combine?

"I was measured at 6' 3" and weighed in at 182 pounds. My forty time was 4.7."

Junior Days are just around the corner, have you been invited to any?

"Yes sir I sure have. Both Georgia Tech and Rutgers have sent me invites. I am going to the one at Georgia Tech for sure."

What else besides Junior Days do you have on your agenda?

"I will be attending FBU University camp when it starts up."

On the recruiting front, what schools are recruiting you?

"Georgia Tech, Auburn, Illinois, Stanford, Syracuse, and Duke are ones that have been recruiting me from the very beginning. Lately Colorado has really started recruiting me hard. I get a lot of stuff from them just about every day now."

Would you have any teams that would be considered your favorites?

"Yes sir, I will say that Georgia Tech is my leader at this time, they are my favorite and a school I would love to attend. I'd say that Clemson is another school that I like but I don't hear too much from them. Tech would still be my leader even if Clemson still recruited me as hard as the other schools."

Dale's Take:

It was obvious Derrick was at a school function but he still took time out of his evening to talk with me. He is very high on Georgia Tech and is looking forward to attending their Junior Day. He says he loves the way Tech uses the quarterback and is very high on the future of the Yellow Jackets. Look for more from this junior as his recruiting is just starting to heat up. Top Stories
