Jeremiah Attaochu - Profile

How is recruiting coming along?

"It is going pretty well. In fact it is getting close to closing down as national signing day gets closer and closer."

I understand you had a call from Coach Al Groh, the new defensive coordinator for Georgia Tech?

"Yes sir I did. Coach Groh called me and said I was his first contact as a member of the Tech staff. It was an honor to hear that from Coach Groh. Coach Groh and I have good relationship from when he was the head coach at Virginia and he is a man I like and respect a lot."

What did Coach Groh have to say to you?

"Basically he talked about me playing in his system either as an outside linebacker or defensive end. He says he will use multiple sets and that I would be used in different ways. He asked if I would come in for an official visit to see the campus and school at Georgia Tech and meet the rest of the staff and players at Tech."

Did you set up a visit?

"Yes sir we did. I will be going down to Georgia Tech this upcoming weekend and take an official visit to the school."

Georgia Tech is getting in late on your recruiting but can you see them getting into the picture with you?

"Yes sir I can. Coach Groh is a great defensive coach and has a great mind when it comes to designing a defense. Plus I know Georgia Tech is a great academic school that is very well respected. You never close a door. I just look at it as wherever God leads me that is where I will end up in college."

How many offers do you have to date?

"Right now I have somewhere between 14 and 15 offers."

Do you have list of schools that you like the best?

"Right now I am down to four schools. Illinois, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, and Maryland are my top schools. I will decide from those four."

With one school in your backyard and three pretty spread out, is distance a factor for you?

"No sir not at all. I will be praying to God for guidance and wherever he leads me that is where I will go. Myself, I am just looking for a place that plays good football."

What criteria will you use for choosing from those four schools?

"I will look at the environment around the program, is it a good feeling that the program is a good one. I will look at the coaching staff to see if they are a stable unit. Is it one that I can respect and know that I will learn and become a better player? Kind of like Coach Groh, when he was at Virginia, I was real comfortable around him and I respect him a lot. I was honored that he called me and asked me to come visit Georgia Tech. That is a big criteria in my decision making process. Also, how well the players get along, are they a good close tight knit unit. I like a team with good chemistry."

When do you feel you will make a decision?

"I feel that about seven days after I make my visit to Georgia Tech I will have a decision made. I think the time after the visit is a time I will use to see where each school stands. Depending on how the visit at Georgia Tech goes it could come sooner but for now I will say it will be in that seven day window for a decision."

Dale's Take:

Jeremiah was very excited to get the call from Coach Groh as he really likes the coach and respects him a lot. Several times Jeremiah said it was an honor to be called by Coach Groh about coming to play for Georgia Tech. He is really looking forward to his visit to Atlanta and meeting the rest of the staff and players at Georgia Tech. He knows the Tech reputation as an academic school now he just needs to get the feel of the campus, coaching staff, and the players before he makes a decision.
