Top Athletes Attend Showcase

Over 150 athletes from Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, North Carolina, and Alabama will be attending Sunday's combine, hosted by South Recruiting Manager Chad Simmons, at Competitive Edge Sports in Duluth, Ga.

The combine is by invitation only and is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. 175 prospects have been invited to the event. Each participant will be measured for their height and weight. The athletes will be timed and measured in the short shuttle, forty yard dash, the three-cone drill, and the standing and vertical broad jump.

The participants were selected from watching film and from games that Chad attended. The combine will give the established names a chance to solidify their position and will also give the unknowns from the 2011, 12, and 13 classes to become established names.'s Jared Kimmel will be on-site to bring you news and photos on the top Georgia Tech targets attending the combine.

Two of the top linebackers being targeted by Tech will be attending the combine. Tucker High School's James Vaughters has an offer from Tech among offers from other top programs around the nation. He just returned from attending Georgia Tech's Junior Day on Saturday.

Linebacker A.J. Johnson from Gainesville High School will be participating. Johnson recently withdrew his verbal commitment to Tennessee and currently holds an offer from Georgia Tech. He too attended Saturday's Junior Day.

Offensive lineman Alan Posey from Clarke Central High School returned from Tech's Junior Day with his first offer. Alan will be attending the combine but won't be participating.

Two of the top offensive linemen in the state of Georgia will be participating. Both are Tech targets and both hold offers from Tech. Thomas O'Reilly is a 285 pound lineman from Pope High School and lists Tech as one of his favorites.

Offensive tackle Watts Dantzler from Dalton High School is both one of the biggest and also one of the more highly recruited offensive linemen in the state. He's expected to narrow his list of favorites at the combine.

Some of the other Tech targets expected to attend the Showcase include wide receiver Christian Conley from North Paulding High School, offensive lineman Quincy McKinney from Columbus Carver High School, running back Jabari Hunt Days from Hillgrove High School, safety Pat Martin from J.L. Mann High School in South Carolina, wide receiver Hakeem Flowers from Wade Hampton High School in South Carolina, defensive end Stephon Tuitt from Monroe Area High School, and Chattahoochee High School teammates Matt Kiefer and Barron Dixon.
