Ryan Norton – Profile
6'4", 275 pounds, 5.1 40
What position do you play?
"I am the current starting center for Mauldin."
How is recruiting going?
"It is going well. It is starting to heat up for me to be honest. I have picked up three offers and a few new schools have started to show interest in me."
What are the new schools showing you interest?
Vanderbilt, Illinois, and South Carolina have started to recruit me and I think they are close to offering. I have to call the South Carolina coaches and talk to them. They have really started to recruit me recently."
Of these schools do you have a favorite?
"Clemson and Georgia Tech are my top two because they have offered me. I like the coaches from the two schools."
Who are the coaches recruiting you for these two schools?
"Coach (Brad) Scott and Coach (Andre') Powell from Clemson and Coach (Todd) Spencer is recruiting me from Georgia Tech."
What have any of the coaches told you?
"Coach Spencer from Georgia Tech told me that he really likes me. I have the type of knee bend they are looking for in a lineman and he also told me that they are really looking to get offensive linemen this year. He said in the past when the line needed some depth that they converted a defensive lineman to center. I like the fact that they really want me as lineman."
Have you been invited to any Junior Days?
"I missed the one at Georgia Tech that I was invited too because of bad weather. However, I am going to go to another day they are holding on the 20th of April and I will be in Atlanta on personal business this weekend and I will swing by Georgia Tech to check out the school. As for others, Clemson and South Carolina have invited me to theirs but I can only go to one since they are both on the same day and I am going to Clemson."
Any colleges invited you to spring practice?
"Clemson has invited me. I am going to go to as many as I can so I can learn more about the teams and see them operate in person. I'll probably visit all of the schools that are recruiting me. I really want to make as many as I can this spring."
What are you doing to stay in football shape this off-season?
"Right now I am throwing the shot put and discus for the track team. After school, the team hits the weight room everyday. I am staying busy this off-season."
You can already tell that Ryan knows how he wants to handle his recruiting process and is keeping a very open mind to all schools. He says he wants to learn about each school and weigh the options when the time comes to decide on where he wants to attend college.
