Ra'Chard Pippens Measures Up at Showcase

Ola High School safety Ra'Chard Pippens showed that he's quite the athlete at the Scout.com Showcase. He put up the types of numbers that can get you noticed and help earn scholarship offers including 42.5 inches in the vertical.

Ra'Chard Pippens – Profile

Ra'Chard Pippens is a name not many have heard much from yet in the Class of 2011. This is partly because Ola High School is just a few years old and their football program hasn't made as much noise. However, Pippens made a name for himself at the Scout.com Showcase in Duluth on January 31st. He measured in at 6'1" and 181 pounds. He jumped 42.5 inches in the vertical, had a 4.40 in the shuttle, a 7.62 in the three-cone drill, broad-jumped 10 feet even, and ran a 4.41 forty. These are the types of numbers that can get you noticed and help earn scholarship offers.

Pippens hopes there are offers coming in the future as he currently holds none. For now, he will settle for hearing from schools and making some visits this spring. He visited UAB and Georgia Tech last fall for games, and is currently hearing from a few schools.

"Right now I hear a lot from South Carolina and UAB. There's also Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Alabama."

South Carolina seems to be the first school that has made it a priority to really meet with Pippens as they've invited him to their Junior Day this coming weekend on the 20th and for a spring practice later on. Ra'Chard says he will try to make it out to Columbia for both. He mentioned Northwestern is the only other school that has invited him to their campus, however he said that is a little too far for him.

One can tell that it is very early in the recruiting process for Pippens when he was asked about priorities for the school he hopes to play for.

"I don't mind playing anywhere really. I just want a full-ride scholarship. That's what I hope for. I'm just going to feel it out."

Pippens plays cornerback on his high school team but projects as a safety at the next level. He did mention that if the hometown schools (Georgia & Georgia Tech) were to offer down the road, that they would definitely be up at the top of his list. For now, it's a waiting game, and one has to think with his kind of athleticism, that Pippens will be hearing from multiple schools soon.
