GT Stacks the Deck

Deck McGuire enters the 2010 season ranked 10th in wins in Georgia Tech history. The preseason All-American will be counted on to once again lead to the Jacket's pitching staff.

Deck McGuire's progression from midweek starter to Friday starter last season will be a big factor in helping him as he begins his junior season. Being a midweek starter his freshman season helped prepare him for the Friday starter job last season. Likewise, being the Friday starter last season will help relax him as he prepares for the same role this season. "I think I can alleviate the anxiety of getting to pitch in such a big situation"

The Jackets enter the season ranked 6th in the country. "I think in the locker room there is a sense of confidence." Deck feels that it's great to be ranked so high but they're all taking it with a grain of salt after the way they finished last season. "Í feel that six is nice but one is better."

Deck and his teammates recently had a team meeting with the coaches to set goals for the upcoming season. McGuire and his fellow juniors really want to get the six seniors to Omaha this year. "Since I've been here this is definitely our deepest team." McGuire and his teammates have put their personnel goals on the backburner and are all setting team goals. "Our drive, as a whole, is really something to be reckoned with."

McGuire and the Jackets open the season on the 19th against Missouri State. He'll take the mound for the Jackets in the 4pm start at Russ Chandler Stadium. Top Stories
