Jones has played both safety positions for Minor but some project him as a cornerback at the next level. One of the two recent offers for Jones came from Georgia Tech. Jones received the verbal offer from secondary coach Charles Kelly. Kelly is also Chris' recruiting coach.
The Jackets like the speed and instincts they saw from Jones when watching him on film. "They feel that I would make an excellent addition to the defensive secondary as a safety", said Jones. "I really liked Coach Kelly." A written offer from Georgia Tech head Coach Paul Johnson is expected to be forth coming.
Jones has just returned from a trip to Tennessee where he also picked up an offer. "I had a really good there." Tennessee took Jones and the other Junior Day recruits to the Tennessee-Kentucky basketball game. "I had a chance to talk to the coaches" said Jones. They showed me around the school and talked about how I would fit into their system." Jones is high on Tennessee's priority list of secondary players. Jones will continue to make visits to other schools recruiting him. "One visit I have definitely planned is to Florida on March 20th to watch their spring practice." There will be other visits but Jones hasn't made any plans at this time.
Although he's just begun to receive offers, Jones already has a top three. "My top three in order are Tennessee, Florida, and Louisville. Where do the other schools fit on his list? "I like all three schools (Georgia Tech, Memphis, and Vanderbilt) but right now they are ones that if something happened to my top three and I wanted to stay closer to home then I think they would be higher on my favorites list."
Jones only has one thing in mind right now in selecting a school. "My main reason for choosing a school is to be able to start or get a lot of playing time as a freshman." That will be the biggest factor in his mind.
Jones originally had decided to wait until signing day to select or announce his school but the way things have moved along with his recruitment that decision may take place by midseason this coming fall. While he would not say that he was close to making a commitment, if the trip to Florida is not what he expects, a commitment to Tennessee might happen. At this point, it seems to be a two team race between Tennessee and Florida with Louisville trailing both those schools.
