Ralph was recently measured at 5'7"-160 at the Scout Showcase. His stock went up after his performance at the Duluth, Georgia Showcase. "I had two sub 4.4 forty times (4.39 & 4.34)." In addition to the forty times, Abernathy had a three cone time of 7.01 and a 38 ½" vertical. "I think I did pretty well overall."
Abernathy has been asked to do a lot of things for his high school team. That includes playing on both sides of the ball and on special teams. "I mainly play running back or wide receiver but I also handle kick-off and punt return duties as well as play some cornerback for the defense."
Following his performance at the Scout Showcase, Ralph has been hearing from quite a few schools. "Right now I'm hearing from Georgia Tech, Alabama, Clemson, Ole Miss, Miami, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Duke, and North Carolina." Ralph only has an offer from Ole Miss at this time but he feels some of the others are close to offering him.
As they are the only school to offer him, Abernathy feels that Ole Miss is recruiting him the hardest right now. He has taken visits to three of the schools and will be visiting a fourth in a few weeks. "I've gone to Georgia Tech twice, Clemson and Alabama, and will go to Ole Miss in the next couple of weeks." After he finishes those visits and gets to know the schools, coaches, players, and recruits, he feels like he'll be able to make a list of his favorites.
Ralph has been invited to quite a few spring practices but he hasn't been able to sort out a schedule at this time. "I want to take some visits to Georgia Tech, Alabama, and Clemson but I will have to see what is best time-wise this spring."
Abernathy has put together a list of factors that he will use in making his decision. He wants to have a chance at early playing time and contribute to the team as early as possible. Location is also important to Ralph. He doesn't want a school that is too close or one that is too far away. "This doesn't rule out Tech or Georgia", said Abernathy. "If they are right for me I will go there."
Academics will also factor into his decision and he is planning on being either a communications or a sports medicine major. Ralph is also looking for a team that has been like the one he's played on at Westminster. He's looking for a close-knit team. When asked what the final criteria would be Ralph said, "I want to go to a school that has coaches that can coach you up to go to the NFL; a program that puts players in the pros is a very good factor in my eyes." Ralph doesn't have a time when he thinks he'll make his decision. "When that feeling hits me and I feel that the school is where I need to be, then I will make the decision." Ralph is looking for that family feeling to reach that decision.
