Chaz Cheeks - GT High on His List

There's more than one player on the East Hall High School (Ga.) squad that is drawing attention from division one football coaches. In addition to Sterling Bailey, Chaz Cheeks, a 6'3"- 220 outside linebacker is also drawing the attention of those same coaches.

Chaz Cheeks - Profile

Chaz and Sterling Bailey recently visited Georgia Tech and got a chance to see them play North Carolina in basketball. "I had a great time," said Cheeks. "Those Tech students showed us how to have a good time."

In addition to attending the game, Cheeks also had a chance to meet with the coaching staff. Cheeks and Bailey had a chance to meet in groups with the coaches and have one-on-one meetings. "I was really glad to have some time with Coach (Paul) Johnson."

In addition to getting an offer from Tech, Cheeks also has offers from North Carolina State and Ole Miss. "Georgia Tech is high on my list," said Cheeks. "I could see myself in a Georgia Tech uniform."

When the time comes, Chaz will be making his decision with his family. Location and academics are at the top of his list in choosing a school. He also wants to play at a school with a winning tradition.

When Georgia Tech first started recruiting Chaz, Coach (Todd) Spencer was his contact. Now that Coach (Andy) McCollum is on the staff at Tech, he has taking over as the lead recruiter for Cheeks.

With the spring approaching Cheeks has not made any plans for Junior Day visits or to attend spring practices. He also has not scheduled a return trip to Georgia Tech. Cheeks would like to attend some summer camps but hasn't decided on which ones he'll attend.

Being recruited by some of the same schools and taking trips together, one wonders if Chaz and Sterling have talked about going to the same school "We've talked about it but Sterling and I haven't made any decisions." Their teammates call them Thunder (Sterling) and Lightning (Chaz). It will be interesting to see what the future holds for both. Top Stories
