The 6'3"-215 linebacker watched today's practice with his dad and enjoyed what he saw. "We enjoyed it very much." They visited the weight room and toured the stadium, player's lounge and locker room. "The weight room is very impressive, state of the art."
After taking the tour they watched the practice with an eye on the linebackers. "You can tell how organized practice is," said Harrell. "Coach (Al) Groh was emphasizing communication between players and doing a very good job of it." It was easy for Harrell to see that there is a good relationship between the players and the coaches.
While at practice they had a chance to talk to two former Jesuit players. "We talked to Anthony Allen and had a chance to talk with former player AJ Smith." Harrell liked the fact that there are some former Tampa players on the team. Harrell also talked with his recruiting coach (Charles Kelly) and linebacker Coach (Joe) Speed. "We also talked with Coach (Paul) Johnson."
The talks with the players and coaches went well. "Everyone went out of their way to make us feel at home," said Harrell. "We came away with a very positive feeling about Georgia Tech." Their impression of the campus was a good one and they were surprised by what they saw. "To be in a big city like Atlanta, there was a lot more green space than you anticipate in a big city like Atlanta."
Harrell didn't leave with an offer but came away with a positive feeling about the mutual interest from both sides. "The coaches said they were in an evaluating period and would be letting us know soon about an offer." Harrell felt that it was a positive visit.
Harrell came away feeling good about the academics, the strength of the program and the coaches. "I think it is a good institution that any parent wouldn't mind their son attending." They plan on making a return visit to Tech. That visit might be for Tech's summer camp. "I'm very sure Georgia Tech will be one of the five official visits we make during Anthony's senior year of high school."
In addition to Georgia Tech, Anthony is hearing from Duke, FAMU, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Stanford, South Florida, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest. "Right now Duke has a soft offer on the table for Anthony." Following today's visit they'll be going to South Florida's spring game and to summer camp at Notre Dame.
