Wilson recently returned from the prestigious Boo Williams Tournament where his team went 4-1. While he has a long list of schools interested in him for both basketball and football he has decided to concentrate on one in college. "I'm going to focus exclusively on basketball."
One of the schools that has offered Wilson a basketball scholarship is Georgia Tech. "Coach (Peter) Zaharis was just up to school visiting me," said Wilson. "We talked a few times by phone and I've also talked to Coach (Paul) Hewitt. Wilson has not made any definite plans to visit Tech but he hopes to get down there soon.
Wilson has yet to narrow down his list of schools but has Tech among other schools with interest. "They are certainly up there with a number of schools," said Wilson. "Marquette, Notre Dame, and Kansas have been pushing hard." Stanford is another school that is showing Derrick interest. He had been receiving interest from Syracuse but hasn't heard from them in a while.
Wilson played last season at Hotchkiss with Georgia Tech commit Jason Morris. "I've know Jason since we were in kindergarten together." Morris feels that Morris made a decision that was good for him and he'll be doing the same. Morris' decision will not be of influence to Wilson.
Academics are one of the first things that Wilson will be looking at in choosing a school. "I believe I can play anywhere I end up selecting, but God forbid, I get hurt, I have a degree moving forward." Wilson carries a solid "B" average which speaks well for him considering the workload at Hotchkiss is tough and he's playing multiple sports. He will rely on his coach and parents in making his college selection.
