Name a division one basketball power and they probably have a Desmond Hubert on their list. Hubert has almost twenty offers with a host of schools showing interest in him after averaging nearly a triple-double his junior year.
The junior center/power forward from New Egypt (NJ) high school is rated at #8 at his position and recently was named Co-MVP in an AAU Tournament.
Desmond has been on the go playing in AAU tournaments and taking unofficial visits. "I've made more than six unofficial visits to Connecticut, Georgetown, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Wake Forest." He's not sure what will be next on his visit list.
The offers have been pouring in for Hubert. "My most recent one is from Ohio State this week," said Hubert. "I guess I have fifteen or so."
Georgia Tech is one of the schools on Hubert's list of twenty offers. He's been hearing from them since they gave him the offer. "They seem very interested and want me to visit in July. Hubert hopes to take that visit. "That's a long way to go, so it will take a little planning."
Hubert has a good idea of what he will be looking for when choosing a school. "I'll be looking at the coaching staff, the quality of the school, my ability to play, and, of course, the academics."
The decision will not be one that Desmond will make by himself. "My uncle and the coaches will help with the decision." Hubert has not decided when he'll make that decision. "I'm not sure if it will be before my senior basketball season or after."
Hubert has some opportunities for camps but only have one trip planned thus far. "The only thing for sure is the NBA Top100 Camp next month."
Desmond is still growing and may eventually evolve form a power forward to a center. "I'm 6'9"-205 and still growing."
The fact that schools such as Harvard and Princeton have shown interest in Hubert is proof that Desmond is not only getting it done on the court but also in the classroom.
