Deion Walker Has New Offer On the Table

Butler High School (N.C.) running back Deion Walker has picked up a recent offer from Illinois. Walker is also getting interest from other schools that have stopped by Butler for the evaluation period.

With all the division one recruits on Butler's team, the school has been a busy destination for college coaches. "I have an offer from Illinois and a verbal offer from Georgia Tech." Clemson, Marshall, North Carolina and South Carolina have also stopped by to talk to Walker's coach and watch spring practice.

Walker will have a chance to get a written offer from Georgia Tech this summer. "They want me to come to their camp in June and let the staff see me perform in person and if I perform up to my abilities I should be getting an offer." Walker feels if he keeps doing what he's been doing, he should get that offer.

Deion likes the idea of having a chance to be an A Back in Georgia Tech's offense. "Not only do they run the ball well but they catch the ball coming out of the backfield," said Walker. "Also, the education you get there will take you far in life if you don't make it in the NFL." Walker plans on coming to his college choice and working hard to get early playing time. "Hopefully I'll get better each year so I can go to the NFL but if that doesn't work out, the education I'd get at Tech would still be there for me."

This summer Deion will be heading to camp at Georgia Tech and possibly to one at Georgia. "Coach Spencer told my coach that the camp would be great for me to meet the entire staff and for them to see me work in game-like conditions." Walker is not sure if he'll be going to any other camps at this time. The entire Butler squad has already participated in a Nike camp at Virginia Tech and has been invited to a few others.

Walker has a good idea of what he'll be looking for in choosing a school. "I'd like to have a coaching staff that will get the best out of you." Deion would also like early playing time but understands that he has to earn that. "I also want a good education no matter how well I do on the football field." He knows that one freak play could end his career so he wants the education as a cushion for life down the road.

Deion will likely be making his college choice closer to signing day. "I want to see what offers I can get before making a final decision and I want to make the best decision I can after looking at all my options"

Walker and his teammates will be looking to repeat as state champions in North Carolina. "I feel we'll have a better offense this year and our defense will be stout." Top Stories
