When asked about his recruitment, Gray said, "Georgia Tech is my number one choice." Troy does not currently have an offer from Tech. "I contacted them expressing my interest," said Gray. "They've seen film of me and I've had a number of conversations with Coach (Brian) Bohannon."
Gray has been to both Junior Days at Georgia Tech. He'll also be taking another visit to the Atlanta campus. "I've been invited to a camp there," said Gray. "I've gotten good feedback and they told me they're interested in me."
On his visits to the campus, Troy saw some things that impressed him about Georgia Tech. "First of all, it's close to home and my parents could see me play," said Gray. "It's a real campus even though you're in the middle of the city and near downtown." Gray was also impressed with the athletic facilities. "I also like the coaches I've met including linebacker Coach (Joe) Speed."
Troy has received offers from ten or so schools. Central Florida, Michigan State, and Toledo are the latest to offer Gray. Virginia from the ACC and Kentucky and Ole Miss from the SEC are among the schools that have offered. Gray has yet to visit any of those schools. "I was in Tuscaloosa recently for the Nike Combine and plan a few unofficial visits with maybe a stop to Central Florida."
While Gray comes across as being easy going, his teammates may tell you differently. "Some call me "T-Gray: but I like the other one… "Head Buster".
Gray has been spending the offseason doing weight training and speed training five days a week. He's also been spending quality time in the classroom. "I got all A's and B's this report period."
