Doran Grant didn't let any grass grow under his feet this summer. "It's been hectic and I've had a lot of schools recruiting me and a lot of offers to choose from." Doran has narrowed that list to ten schools. "I've narrowed it down to a top ten of Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Cincinnati, USC, UCLA, Penn State and one other school that escapes me right now." Grant plans on trimming that list of ten to five in early September. "I want to get my recruitment to a point that is easy to concentrate on and I can give more attention to those five."
Grant is looking for early playing time and a strong coaching staff. "I know that playing time is earned and not given to you and that is what I want." Grant is looking for a school that will play the best players no matter whether they are seniors or freshman.
Don't' look for an early decision from Doran. "I'll make my decision probably a week or so after my senior season." This will allow Grant to take all five of his official visits. "I'll probably take a few in season and then take a few after the season." Right now it looks like Georgia Tech and North Carolina will be two of the schools getting those official visits. "The other visits will be one close by that I can take without having to miss anything during my senior year."
One of the coaches that Grant has developed a strong relationship with is Georgia Tech secondary Coach Charles Kelly. "He's a cool guy, real intense about his football and you know he knows his football when you talk to him." Grant met Kelly at a camp at Georgia Tech last year. "He's been recruiting me ever since," said Grant. "We often talk about things other than football and I like that." Grant likes the fact that he always knows where he stands with Kelly.
Grant and his teammates open their season August 27th. "I'll be making the cut sometime after that game."
