Jefferson Ashiru currently has offers from seven schools. "I have offers from Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi, Duke, Connecticut, Memphis and Air Force." A new school has entered the picture for Ashiru. "I camped at Georgia Tech and they started recruiting me," said Ashiru. "I've talked with Coach (Brian) Bohannon and he said I did really well in camp." Tech will be watching Ashiru once the evaluation period begins in September.
While he does have the seven offers, Jefferson is not ready to name any favorites. "I'm wide open right now and every school is on equal footing right now."
All the schools that are recruiting Ashiru are recruiting him as a linebacker. "Some say middle linebacker and some say outside linebacker." Jefferson is 6'2"-215 and runs a 4.69 forty so playing either linebacker position is a possibility.
Ashiru plans on taking visits in the fall. "I need to see more schools because I have only played high school football for two years." Ashiru's mom didn't want him playing football but he finally convinced her to let him play his sophomore year. "I have developed into a better player each year and hopefully my senior year will show the coaches what I can do and I'll get more offers," said Ashiru. "I'll use my senior year as a recruiting tool."
His main priority in selecting a school will be academics. "I'll also look at how the program is performing and whether or not they are committed to winning and developing players." Location and distance won't be a big factor for Ashiru in selecting a school. "I just want a school that has a nice campus where I can feel at home."
Jefferson will be using his senior season to catch the attention of college coaches. With very little film available of him, he's hoping to catch their attention with his performance on the field this season.
