Jerry has been busy since he attended Georgia Tech's summer camp. "I have been hearing a lot from South Carolina, Southern Miss, and Memphis. Georgia Tech has been keeping in constant contact with me as well."
Mathis made the trip to Tech" campus to get a closer look at the players and coaches. "I enjoyed watching them go at it today and I was impressed with the team," said Mathis. "They showed a lot of energy and the coaches were doing a lot of teaching and staying on the players."
Following the scrimmage, Mathis had a chance to spend some time with Coach Joe Speed. "I talked with my recruiting coach for only a short time because they had to get ready to go to a funeral. Coach Speed told Mathis that they were watching him closely and that they would be evaluating his film from last season that could lead to an offer. "Coach Speed said they hadn't decided which side of the ball they want me on so they will look at me as both an offensive and a defensive lineman when looking at my film." The staff will also have his film from Rockdale's opening game against Winder.
Mathis hopes that after they review his film that he'll be receiving an offer. "They said they have spots for an additional player or two now and they really like what I could bring to the team," said Mathis. "If they do offer, I will commit on the spot because Georgia Tech is the team I've liked from the start." Mathisis hoping that offer will come after they review his film.
Mathis and his teammates are looking forward to their opening game next week. "We open with Winder and hope it will be the first of many wins."
