Profile 2004 - Dumaka Atkins (DT/OL)

Dumaka Atkins has some good bloodlines. His older brother Baraka Atkins is a defensive end for the Miami Hurricanes, and people have been assuming that the younger Atkins will follow his brother to Miami. That is an assumption that Atkins would rather people not make.

"I'm just keeping an open mind," said Atkins. "I haven't even gotten a letter from Miami yet, so I don't know how they could be one of my favorites," added Atkins with a laugh. "I've been hearing from schools like Michigan, Oklahoma, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, and Georgia Tech. Those are some of the schools I've been hearing from. No one's offered yet though, because they all say they think I'm going to Miami. I'm really wide open though."

At 6-4 and 270 pounds with a 4.93 forty Atkins has a lot of options ahead of him including which position he will play on the next level. He has played every position on the offensive line as well as defensive tackle. What does he prefer to do in college?

"It doesn't matter to me. I'll play wherever gives me the best chance to earn a scholarship."

Atkins was disappointed with Booker's 5-4 season last year, but after only losing 4 starters from the team, Booker and his teammates are ready to make some noise this season in Sarasota.
