"He actually took a couple snaps today in 11-on-11," coach Mark Richt said. "He didn't look full speed, but he was healthy enough to get out there in a green jersey and get a few reps."
2. Now that he's had his highly touted class of freshmen in practice for a few weeks, Richt says the group is "really good."
"We did really good," he said. "The typical things that keep young guys from playing, especially really talented guys from playing, is just knowing what to do. Sometimes it might be just not quite physically strong enough yet. But you can tell that these guys are going to be really highly productive players and they're really talented players. We'll just see who ends up starting and playing and all that kind of stuff."
While Richt sees a productive bunch, some decisions on redshirts are coming in the near future.
"We're getting closer," Richt said. "There are some guys we're pretty sure will. There are some guys we're not sure. There's some guys that probably won't. I don't know if I'm ready to give all that out because it usually causes players and moms and dads to be happy or sad."
"The freshmen are very talented, but as always, they have not done it before," Richt said. "Boykin and Smith have handled the ball in big time games, whether it was as a punt returner or kick returner."
4. The team will begin scout work Saturday to begin prepping for Boise State.
"We'll probably get a little bit of scout work on Saturday and Monday," Richt said. "Then by Wednesday we will have that practice game against Boise State. In order to have a good practice game, you've got to spend time with your scout teamers, knowing how to line them up also. We'll get a little bit Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and then we'll scrimmage on Wednesday."
5. DE Derrick Lott is back practicing with no limitations.
"He needed reps," Richt said. "He needed all those reps he missed, so he's a little bit behind on assignments. He's got to catch up."
6. Of course on the record, Richt is always going to say his team has the chance to be real good this season. But he sees a key to success.
"The difference between really good teams and average teams are how well you finish," Richt said, keeping with the theme of this offseason. "Do you make plays at the end of the game? That's going to define us really, I think."
"I like it a lot," he said. "We've been very fortunate to have Cordy, Gates, Ben Jones, Burnette and Bean get just about every single rep together…We've had those five guys together the whole camp, which is great."
