Trio of Players Sign with Bulldogs

ATHENS – Georgia secured a trio of players on Wednesday -- the first day of the November signing period.

Point guard Charles Mann, shooting guard Kenny Gaines and small forward Brandon Morris signed a letter of intent to play for coach Mark Fox at Georgia.

"These are three guys we targeted early on, and I'm excited to get all three of them," Fox said. "We're going to have a big perimeter, a long perimeter."

Athleticism is the common thread for the three players.

Mann, 6-6, 190 pounds, will play at Milton High in Alpharetta this year after averaging 22 points, 7.1 assists and 6.8 rebounds per game as a junior at Union Grove.

"He's a strong athletic kid who's got a very natural instinct to make players better," Fox said. "I love that about him."

Gaines, 6-4, 190 pounds, is set to begin his senior season at Whitefield Academy in Smyrna. He's rated as the No. 20 shooting guard in the 2012 class. Gaines averaged 20.8 points a game last season, leading the Wolfpack to the Class A Final Four.

"Kenny Gaines is an extremely athletic kid and extremely quick scoring guard," Fox said. "I think he's very versatile in the backcourt."

Morris, regarded as a combo forward measuring 6-8, 195 pounds, has been part of three state championship teams at Miller Grove High in Lithonia. He averaged 11.2 points and eight rebounds a game in 2010-11.

"Brandon's a very versatile, long small forward who knows how to win, does a lot of things on the basketball court," Fox said.

The Bulldogs aren't finished with the class.

"We have one scholarship that remains, and we need to address frontline scoring," Fox said. "That's the focal point at this time."

Instate post players that remain unsigned include Miller Grove's Tony Parker, Shiloh High's Robert Carter and Southwest DeKalb's William "Shaq" Goodwin (committed to Memphis).
