South: Inside look at official visitors

Some of the best out of the South hit the road this weekend for official visits. Scout takes an inside look at that group here.

Tigers to Host Three of the Best in NC

Keith Marshall is the top prospect in North Carolina and the the no. 5 prospect in America and he is going to be at Clemson this weekend. He will not be alone either.

Not only will he have close friend Todd Gurley there with him on an official visit, but he will be there with a handful of Clemson commitments like Jay Guillermo, Patrick Destefano, and Oliver Jones. All three of those guys are offensive linemen and you can bet they will be working him along with the Tiger coaching staff.

Right now, Florida, Georgia, and Notre Dame lead the pack for Marshall, but Clemson has come on strong over the last few weeks. Is it too late? He will be announcing his decision early in December, so stay tuned to Scout for the latest.

Marshall will visit South Carolina officially in two weeks when they host Clemson.

Gurley, a four-star running back out of Tarboro, N.C. has made it no secret that Georgia and North Carolina lead for his services at this time, but can Clemson become a real contender?

He has talked to Dabo Swinney this week and the Tigers were a favorite of his early in the process, so do not count them out. He tentatively plans to commit at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on January 3, but he is prepared to push it back if he is not ready.

This will be Gurley's second official visit (Georgia was first on Sept. 10) and some feel UGA could be in the lead due to the questions still surrounding the UNC program.

A new name has emerged and Jonathan Bullard will be on the Clemson campus taking an official visit this weekend as well. Early on Thursday, Scout was told South Carolina was the school he'd be at this weekend, but this story developed late Thursday night.

Right now, the 6-foot-4, 260 pound defensive lineman out of Crest likes Florida and Clemson the most. He is close to CU commit Carlos Watkins, so that could help the Tigers.

Five-Star to be in Athens

Another five-star out of the South that will be on the road this weekend is Jordan Jenkins, the top prospect in the state of Georgia.

Jenkins is fresh off an official visit to Alabama last weekend and he has already visited Auburn and Tennessee officially as well. This will be number four and he will be at Florida at the end of the month for his final official visit.

It has been a two-team race for Jenkins for a while and those two are Alabama and Florida. It appears Alabama may have pulled ahead a little after his time in Tuscaloosa last weekend, but Florida gets him in Gainesville one more time.

When talking UGA, they have been behind from the beginning. They have stayed in the middle of the pack. They made a little push a few months ago, but something special at this visit would have to happen for the Dawgs to become a true player.

South Carolina wants Sunshine State Talent

The Gamecocks will host two official visitors from the state of Florida this weekend.

Kelvin Rainey is a tight end out of Yulee and he is still committed to USC although he visited Arkansas recently. Rainey is like a big receiver and the Gamecocks would love to land the other prospect out of Florida that is visiting this weekend as well.

Tyriq McCord has Carolina high on his list. The defensive end out of Tampa (FL) Jefferson has offers from a list of schools, but other than South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Miami, and USC look like the schools in the mix.

At one time, it looked like the Gators could be the front-runner, but it appears all schools on McCord's list have a legit shot now.

Quick Hits

  • Louisville will have Abraham Garcia on their campus and they have been involved with 'Nacho' for some time. He has bounced back from an injury plaqued season in 2010 with a strong season in 2011. He has the Cardinals in his top four.

  • Ereck Flowers, a four-star offensive tackle out of Miami (FL) Norland was scheduled to visit Illinois this week, but he told Scout Wednesday night that this visit would likely not happen this weekend. He is committed to Miami and he appears to be firm right now.
