Gaines to Square Off with Buford Targets

Georgia fans will have the chance to cast an eye to the future this weekend at the On the Radar Hoops Invitational.

Whitefield Academy, led by 2012 Georgia signee Kenny Gaines, will play Buford Saturday at the event, held at North Gwinnett High School.

"Kenny Gaines is an extremely athletic kid and extremely quick scoring guard," coach Mark Fox said. "I think he's very versatile in the backcourt."

Gaines, 6-4, 190 pounds, is rated the No. 20 shooting guard in the current class. He is averaging nearly 21 points a game, leading Whitefield to a 10-3 record.

Buford, meanwhile, has a pair of potential prospects the Georgia staff is currently recruiting.

Point guard Isaiah Williams and small forward A.J. Davis, both juniors, frequently hear from Fox and company.

On the Radar Hoops is run by Shun Williams, who sees the Buford duo as one of the most talented in the state.

"Davis is a small forward with a good offensive skill set. He handles the ball like a guard at 6-8," Williams said. "He is most effective slashing to the basket, and he has the ability to knock down shots from 15 to 18 feet.

"Williams is a kid that has improved his stock since last season," he continued. "Smooth lead guard that allows the game to come to him. He does a good job of disturbing the ball and he can knock down shots."

This is the first-ever edition of the Invitational, with a great deal of talent slated to participate.

"This is a first year event that has received a lot of support from the high school coaches around the state," Shun Williams said. "I'm excited to have some of the best basketball programs in the state of Georgia participate."
