McCrary Commits to Vanderbilt

Cedar Grove quarterback Jonathon McCrary called the Vanderbilt coaching staff with good news late Thursday night.

McCrary, rated the second-best 2013 quarterback in the state of Georgia, committed via a phone call to assistant coach Sean Spencer at 11 p.m.

"They're sincere about what they want," he said. "They told me I was going to be the only quarterback they were going to recruit."

A 6-2, 170-pound native of Ellenwood, Ga., McCrary claimed offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and others.

Originally having no intentions of committing early, McCrary said Vanderbilt "was the best college at this time."

"I want to get involved with what Vanderbilt is doing right now," he said.

McCrary still plans to take visits to other schools and travel to camps and combines this offseason, he said.
