Dawgs add big defensive lineman

Georgia landed a commitment from one of the top defensive linemen in the Peach State Tuesday morning and you can get the story here.

"DeAndre Johnson has committed to the University of Georgia," Northgate Head Coach Tommy Walburn told Scout Tuesday morning.

Johnson is a 6-foot-3, 315 pound interior defensive lineman that will play nose guard for the Dawgs.

He is excited.

"I have been thinking about going to Georgia for a long time and I committed to them this morning. I just thought it over and decided it was the right time," said Johnson.

Most of the time, the prospect calls the coach when he is ready to commit, but it went a little different this time.

"Coach [John] Lilly called my coach to see if I was going to be at their V.I.D. (Very Important Dawg) Day this weekend and I got on the phone with Coach Lilly, and committed to him.

"I told him I had some news for him and he thought I was down to a top three or something. I told him I was ready to be a Dawg and he was excited about that."

The big defensive lineman out of Newnan (GA) Northgate known by most as "Moose" will be in Athens this weekend and he can't wait to get there again.

"Georgia is my school now and I love the atmosphere there," he added. "It is close to home, I will be a part of their defense in the future, and I am very excited about my decision."

Duke, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee had also offered him.
